Three Questions: Hannah Dansie

There’s no other way to put it – Hannah Dansie’s geometric prints make me happy. Originally from Northern California, Hannah Dansie is a North Carolina based artist. Hannah’s work involves a variety of mediums, but she is a painter at heart. I asked her three questions…

I love how you give vintage style a pop look. What’s going through your mind when you create a new piece?

When I first started these collages I was working with the theme of connectivity. I began using color and shapes to capture the unseen, and to illustrate the connections to each other and our surroundings. This idea has evolved over the past year, and especially now with the amount of commissions I’m receiving using old family photographs, I find myself really just letting the photo guide me. I try to convey or exaggerate the personality and mood of the photograph with my color choices and composition. But I am a visual artist, so I’m also trying to make things that I think look awesome!

I think you are definitely achieving awesome! Are there any specific pieces that mean the most to you?

I’m not sure if there is a specific piece that means more than any other. The piece I finished last is always my new favorite! I guess Aunt Mary Ingram is a special one, she is one of the first I made in this series.

What are you up to when you’re not creating collages and prints for sale?

Earlier this year I left my job as a baker to pursue making art full time. So if I’m not making collages there is a good chance I’m painting or bookkeeping or doing another one of the millions of things you have to do when you own a small business. But when I do get a chance to take a day off I like to spend it with my husband and my dogs, gardening or hiking or cooking delicious meals.

I don’t have my paintings listed in my Etsy shop right now, I’m planning to open another shop later on this year, but here are some examples of my other work:
