Art Outside? Yes, please!

The first Friday after Labor Day has been one of my favorite days for the past 10 years. Not only is it the first time we all start thinking about cooler fall weather, but it’s also the weekend that Art Outside takes over Schlafly Bottleworks.

This year I picked up a yummy Kölsch – thank you Schlafly! – and we headed over to spin KDHX‘s fabulous wheel of prizes. My girls won “The Coaster: Yakety Yak and other Hits” CD and an Alternative Tentacles sticker. Score for the whole family!

Next we spent some time creating paintings using the pointillism technique with SCOSAG. SCOSAG is the St. Louis City Open Studio and Gallery, a visual arts non-profit striving to foster creativity by providing inclusive access to art education. They are located in Tower Grove Park.

Then we hit the artist tents where I fell for Riley Construction‘s modern heirloom rag dolls, hedgehogs, foxes and mushrooms. Riley Construction mastermind April Tate handcrafts each character from a combination of recycled/vintage materials and modern materials. She had this to say about Art Outside

This was my fourth year at this show and it’s always a great experience. My favorite part is the customers from previous shows who bring their rag dolls with them…sometimes it’s just to say hi and tell me how much they still love their toy and sometimes it’s to pick out a new friend. Either way, it’s amazing to know that they have the same love for handmade toys that I do and that they understand why one of a kind toys are so special. My customers are the best 🙂

As I’m writing this there are only 347 more days until the next Art Outside…can’t wait!
